Is it worthwhile to pursue a one-year Master's degree abroad? Why?

There are no experiments or research; the undergraduate background is insufficient; and the difficulty of progression is low.

All of these points that people don't see are also true.

I believe the answer section has already explained a lot about the one-year Master's degree, so I won't go into detail.

I chose to study a one-year Master's degree in Hong Kong Chinese back then primarily because it met my needs.

1) The most important point is that my undergraduate background is very ordinary (Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics), and because I majored in business, the best way to find a job right after graduation would probably be to work as a "guiyuan" in a local bank branch, or in the finance department of a small private company, and then start a retirement mode.

So, in order to compensate for the disadvantage of only having a bachelor's degree, I must obtain a master's degree.

2) If I take the exam on the mainland, it will be extremely difficult for me to get into a better school, and if I do not pass the national line, my year of preparation will be completely wasted, and I cannot accept a gap year two or even three wars, so studying abroad is my best option.

3) My undergraduate background wasn't the most restrictive. My aunts and uncles said the United States was good, that there were many mainland students in the United Kingdom, and that Australia was a good place to study and immigrate, but after learning about it, I was discouraged by the cost of at least $300,000.

4) In the end, after much deliberation, I decided to apply for some of Hong Kong's less expensive majors, and then begin doing my internship, preparing for IELTS, and taking the G exam early on.

So, in addition to meeting my needs, the main benefits of a one-year Master's degree in Hong Kong are 1) I can buck the trend and succeed in a prestigious university of the same level that I would never be able to get into in mainland China.

2) I can get a master's degree while also working for one of the Big Four, which I would not have been able to do after finishing my undergraduate degree.

3) At the same time, the lower cost of studying abroad in comparison to the UK and US relieved my parents' financial stress.

In addition to these points, I have gained additional benefits for myself.

The ability to plan independently and actively learn; a broader global perspective; more relevant professional knowledge and skills, and so on.

Don't mistake a one-year master's degree for a few hours of class each day. If you don't mix up your days and really put your heart and soul into your studies, you'll have enough time after class to digest the countless required literature readings, textbook prep, group work, presentations, essays, and papers... You'll have plenty to chew on.

It was not uncommon for people to stay up all night during final exam week, and there were no professors to highlight the key points for you, so you had to gnaw through hundreds of pages of textbooks that were all in English.

During that year in Hong Kong, I gradually developed more and more good habits and skills, such as English reading, information retrieval, team communication, idea presentation, time management, and execution skills, which laid the groundwork for my performance in the workplace after graduation.

Despite the fact that I have not studied my major academically and have only written minor course papers, I am not as well educated as mainland master's students.

However, academia is not my passion, let alone my life's work, and an overly idealistic academic mindset may jeopardize my ability to work.

So, in every way, the availability of a one-year master's degree has done me far more good than harm, allowing me to improve my education, abilities, and eyesight while avoiding options that tie academics and qualifications together.

Furthermore, I believe that many people who pursue a strictly academic path do not ultimately get what they want through the postgraduate education system in mainland universities.

Whether or not to pursue academics or research is not, in my opinion, a point that should be used to tarnish a one-year master's degree.

The fact that specialized students receive a regular one-year master's degree from a prestigious university should not be used to continually denigrate.

Each school's price has been clearly marked, but this price is determined by your "undergraduate background + academic performance + practical experience + other comprehensive factors" combined to determine which level of school you can attend.

There are various criteria, and the results of the various dimensions clearly differ, but there are no absolute advantages or disadvantages. It is a good degree system as long as the ultimate goal of training is met.

I do not deny the importance of scientific research to our country's wealth and progress, but from the perspective of ordinary people, our primary concern should be our own professional development.

The world requires scientists as well as ordinary people to keep all industries running smoothly.

And, in all industries, the primary concern is your ability to do your job, not whether you can conduct scientific research or have academic training.

What we need to resist is the truly informal "one-year" system, the "one-year" system that is completely peddling academic qualifications, the bogus diplomas that are disrupting both the academic world and the market, rather than the legal and legitimate "one-year" system.

These are the conclusions that I have slowly come to after having completed a one-year master's degree and gradually stepping out of the student mindset after working for a year or two.

03. Finally, consider whether a one-year master's degree is worthwhile.

Whether before or after the epidemic, as long as qualifications香港大學排名 remain an impassable barrier to employment on the mainland, I believe studying in Hong Kong offers excellent value for money!

First and foremost, you can attend a higher-ranked and more prestigious university for the same price and with a lower risk of progression.

Second, you gain work experience before graduation, changing industry trends have little impact on you (many people worked hard three years ago to cross over to a popular profession, and three years later the demand for talent in the industry has long since saturated or even shrunk), and you have the privileged international student status.

Finally, a change in study and living environment is more than just a novelty; I believe that the most important thing that studying abroad has brought me is an expansion of my horizons, an opening of my mind, and an awakening of my sense of self.

However, at the moment, the difficulty of application, the increase in tuition fees, the epidemic trend, the economic situation at home and abroad, and... all of these have a stranglehold on international students, and the status advantage of an international master's degree in the job market is definitely devalued.

However, when compared to domestic postgraduate students with the same undergraduate background, and when compared to undergraduate students with lower qualifications, the background of international students at Hong Kong's top three universities or even City University Polytechnic is still more desirable and competitive.
