A long time ago, I would like to write an article, mainly about my feelings about school, for reference only.
My personal mental journey: from the joy of receiving the admission notice, to the entanglement of "Mainland or Hong Kong", to the confusion when I first arrived in Hong Kong, and the ups and downs afterwards, is similar to many students around me.
First, celebrate. Featured alumni Hong Kong As a vested interest, it‘s hard for me to experience that joy again now, but I‘m sure I was happy then. The reasons may be very simple: First of all, as one of the universities in Hong Kong, the name of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University itself has a strong attraction for many mainland students, because they have never thought that they can come to Hong Kong, and they think that all kinds of high and high has nothing to do with the strength of the school. Second, he did a search on the Internet. He felt all kinds of power, possibly a world-class university. Third, I don‘t think I did well in the college entrance examination. However, when I looked at the international rankings, I found that PolyU has a variety of top rankings, which is higher than my ideal ranking for a mainland university. I don‘t think failing the college entrance examination has ruined my future. (These are just feelings at the time...)
Then there is the struggle period of "Mainland or Hong Kong". Although this question is crucial, I feel that as a student who has only studied in Hong Kong, it is difficult for me to objectively describe the advantages and disadvantages of mainland universities, mainly focusing on the Hong Kong Polytechnic.
Unlike Renmin University on the mainland (including the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the city of Hong Kong) , polyu has an independent enrollment system that does not conflict with the national college entrance examination, however, the only criterion for most teachers to Judge Enterprises is the college entrance examination score. A few days after the Gaokao score, the admission will be announced, and then through a few days to pay the retainer fee, by early July (it seems to be 7.1) polyu will be on record. Once the files were filed, the social volunteers of the Inland University of Technology were of no use to themselves (so they had some students from the University of Technology, and the volunteers at the time only filled in hhhhh in the northern part of the Qing dynasty) , while the Hong Kong Polytechnic is an important choice for improving the quality of students, the time management of these career choices determines whether a company can receive an education for only a few days. This is a critical moment. Let me now turn to the reasons for choosing/not choosing the Hong Kong Polytechnic:
Reasons for choosing Hong Kong Polytechnic:
No playground.
Secondly, the geographical location of PolyU is really excellent. In the center of Kowloon City, shopping in Tsim Sha Tsui Harbour City, listening to concerts in Hung Hom Gymnasium, or eating in Huangpu, Mong Kok are all very convenient. Many students are engaged in purchasing, which is very convenient and can earn some extra money.
Third, polyu undergraduate accounting curriculum system is more perfect, more in-depth content, ACCA accounting certificate also has a certain exemption effect. After graduation, undergraduate AF and ACCT are divided into four easier majors, and then struggle for a few years in the four majors, income can also, at least in Hong Kong self-reliance no problem.
Fourth, PolyU is relatively free to choose courses. Students can arrange the learning order of multiple courses by themselves (pre-selected courses can be mailed to the college), or they can take some general courses of interest.
Fifth, after four years of undergraduate study in Hong Kong University, and then three years in the Hong Kong government (whether looking for a job or studying for a master), you can get a permanent residence in Hong Kong, China, which should be good news for students who want to work in Hong Kong social workers or settle down in the future.
Reasons for not choosing the Hong Kong Polytechnic:
First, polyu is not a typical elite university (similar to HKU or Hong Kong Chinese) . Hong Kong polytechnic university is not a“Pheasant university” on the mainland, in Hong Kong or overseas, but it is not a good university either. Thus, owning polyu's brand may not have been lost in mid-1985, but it was no better than top universities, either at work or in graduate school.
Second, as an applied university, many courses of PolyU focus on practice, while many theoretical courses are ignored. Take AF of PolyU Business School as an example. Accounting and finance majors are mainly accounting+management courses in the first and second years, and some financial courses will be added in the fourth year. It seems reasonable, but if you compare the business school courses of other universities, you can see the problem. There are almost no mathematics courses in PolyU Business School, which leads many AF and FS students to minor in Applied Mathematics (AMA). Because there is no math foundation, many graduate students can't apply. To be honest, apart from accounting courses, in my opinion, the ACCT+AF+FS courses in PolyU Business School are not very systematic, and many courses are no longer effectively related to this course after one semester.
Third, the mainland is heavily polarized. At the beginning of the first year, most of us follow the hard work of the third year. A lot of people are busy falling in love. During this time, some of them have given up their studies and have not even passed their first course (usually FA) . Some study under pressure and self-discipline, but still maintain good performance, and even some can break the level 4(GPA 4.0) .
Fourth, the campus of PolyU is quite small. Compared with mainland universities, it is like a big high school. ...
Then talk about some of the more detail-oriented feelings:
The employees who study are still very enthusiastic and responsible for most enterprises. If you have any questions, you can ask them directly after class or send an email to make an appointment. Some teachers have good students' Mandarin, while others are just so-so. But the teachers I have met won't have any influence because you can speak Mandarin. In their view, Chinese mainland students are really strong.
There‘s no need to worry too much about politics. Apart from the democracy walls in schools, mainland students rarely experience a politically discordant atmosphere. Many local students are friendly and willing to make friends with mainland students.
For students who like clubs but are worried about not being able to integrate into local student clubs, there are many choices, such as the Mainland Student Union, the Fire Missionary Society, aerial photography, English Drama Club, etc. These are the main members of mainland clubs.
Although the circle of mainland students is small, most can find like-minded people. I hope my fellow students in academia find strong and patient teammates. I hope social students can find a partner who likes to party and students who like to take photos can also find a good partner.
It's a pleasure to go to Shenzhen with friends on weekends or during holidays. The feeling is that prices suddenly drop like first class, such as Haidilao, Wal-Mart, milk tea and all kinds of food.
There is a huge gap between the rich and the poor in Hong Kong. Sometimes there are very, very thin beggars/scavengers on the road, some of whom are physically deformed.
Don't expect too much from Hong Kong's service industry. I have met excellent shop assistants and completely impatient shop assistants, but mainly the former.
Most teachers, especially local teachers, still considered Hong Kong to be well-developed in all aspects. However, there were some uninhabitable areas in Hong Kong, such as high population density and high prices.
In a word, the overall feeling that PolyU gives me is not a typical academic hall, but a vibrant lecture hall, which gives you the basic ability to survive in the future and allows you to enjoy some fireworks.
